Design Inspiration:

This design is a graphic interpretation of the Hawaiian National Anthem. "Hawai'i Pono'i" was written by King David Kalakaua, who was chosen by Kamehameha III as heir to the throne. The words were translated into English in 1896 by Mary Kawena Pukui, who also served as an expert translator for Chiefess Kapiolani at her trip to Washington in 1897. Hawai'i Pono'i translates to "Hawai'i's Own"
